Central Bedfordshire is one of the last remaining authorities which operated a three-tier model across all of its schools. The council was formed in April 2009 as a Unitary Authority replacing Bedfordshire County Council as the local authority. Shortly after this time, although the authority made no effort to change provision, individual schools and families of schools indicated their intention to pursue two-tier arrangements through a variety of forms. Consequently, many of the current middle schools will change their form in coming years. Schools marked with a footnote are intending to change their age range.
