Worcestershire has vastly reduced its number of Middle Schools over recent years. Previously having a variety of 'Middle deemed Primary' and 'Middle deemed Secondary' with transfers at various ages, the authority now retains just 21 Middle schools, most of which are 9-13 Secondaries.

The authority has indicated its long-term intention to standardise ages of transfer across the authority two just two systems. It retains two-tier where it already exists, and added it in a few areas which were previously 3-tier, such as Kidderminster. However, it has also shown support for some existing three-tier structures, including a new PFI for the re-building of through schools for First & Middle schools in Bromsgrove (3-13 year-olds)

In Evesham, the Simon de Montfort school merged with Evesham High, creating a 10-16 High School. In Redditch, Ridgeway School is now a 9-16 middle-deemed-secondary school.
